On June 3, the Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners presented Juneteenth of PBC with a formal proclamation, honoring their cultural impact in the county. The proclamation was read and presented by Commissioner Bobby Powell to the organization’s co-founder Brittany McAfee and other team members.
Of the award, McAfee says, “It affirms that our cultural contributions we’ve made to the city uplifts the legacy, freedom, resilience and unity that Juneteenth represents.”
Earlier in the meeting, Commissioner Powell also presented a separate proclamation recognizing Palm Beach County Community Services Department and its partners for their role in supporting Juneteenth programming, officially marking June 19, 2025, as Juneteenth Day in Palm Beach County.
Notably, both proclamations took place just hours before the Commission voted 6–1 to eliminate all county-run Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. While the actions were not formally connected, the timing may prompt discussions concerning the future of minority-focused initiatives in Palm Beach County.

Despite the political backdrop, Juneteenth of PBC will hosts its 5th Annual Unity x Black Excellence Festival on June 22, 2025 from 5-10 p.m. at Meyer Amphitheater in downtown West Palm Beach. The theme for this year is the HBCU Edition. The admission for the event is free.
